Varra...in need of help
Named VARRA because she was found on P. Guevarra st. in San Juan. Varra appeared at a building from nowhere 3 months ago & never left. She is not emaciated but has bad skin condition & is eating so far. She has had a dose of Ivermectin, though Advocate would help her heal much faster. She is a Spitz and has a plastic rope tied on her neck, obviously, she was once someone's dog who was probably set free because of her skin condition. She is being taken to the SAWS - Strike Animal Welfare Shelter run by Aileen Deguzman. We are looking for donations of Advocate for the treatment of VARRA and for cages and food for the SAWS shelter to thank Aileen for her kindness.
If you can help in any way please contact Varra's rescuer Rebecca on +63-917 894 6272 / +63-922-892 6272 designexel@yahoo.com
NO to "Tambucho (exhaust pipe) Gassing of Dogs" 02 August 2010, Gerry's Grill, Ali Mall, Cubao
The recent passing of the Administrative Order # 21 by the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Animal Industry is an indication how inept the Philippine government and the members of the Committee on Animal Welfare are. Only 2 NGOs disapproved of the Tambucho gassing, namely PAWS and PSPCA... Read more on... No to exhaust pipe gassing of dogs
A must read letter. It has been circulating for some time on
various blogs so some of you might have read it. If you have not then
please read it. If you, or anyone you know are thinking of breeding,
wanting to buy a pet, are considering abandoning a pet or think "shelters" are safe

ANIMAL POPULATION CONTROL
A pair of breeding cats & their offspring can produce 420,000 kittens over a 7 year period!
The Philippine government does not support Animal Population Control. Therefore we are burdened with the problem of run-away growth in the stray animal population; on almost every street corner you will see a stray animal struggling to survive. Spaying and neutering is not a well known procedure, and even then, the majority of people do not have the funds to be responsible pet owners. Our goal is to make spay/neuter services affordable to those who might not otherwise neuter their pets.

In 2007 the CARA clinic was established, the first dedicated low cost Spay & Neuter clinic in the country.
HUMANE EDUCATION
The Philippines is not a place to live if you are a local cat or dog, there's no sympathy on these streets.
Although banned in 1998 the cruel dog meat trade is still very much rife today. Cats are viewed the same as rodents; a nuisance to be deterred and eliminated. Newborn kittens are either killed, or dumped alive. Adult cats are poisoned, tortured or have to contend with boiling water being thrown over them.

The cruelty shown above occurred in affluent villages in the Philippines; contrary to popular belief, cruelty is by no means limited to the provinces.
At local schools we present a Humane Education Module which is aimed at promoting animal welfare in a fun but informative manner. In addition we teach about the importance of neutering pets, and the long term benefits to the animal and the community in general.
Hopefully by starting with the youngest members of the population, we can encourage a new generation of people that show compassion to animals.
A seemingly impossible task indeed, but a very important one for the progression of animal welfare in the Philippines.
OUR RESCUES
Our focus is neutering to reduce the over population. However we can't turn our backs on animals in need that we see on the streets. Most are in a very bad state, therefore requiring clinic stays and expert medical attention. Medical bills are always extremely high. CARA members personally undertake these costs. In the photo is Bowie, one of CARA member's latest rescue - read more about his plight here Rescues .
DONATIONS CARA receives no government funding and is run by volunteers. The plight of the stricken animals that roam the streets is
just dismissed by the majority, we urgently need
support to help these animals.
In order to meet the varying
requirements of our supporters, we have devised lots of ways you can contribute to the animals well-being. We hope you find one that
appeals to you. We appreciate your support
at whatever level is possible for you, every little helps! Please Donate
