AN
IGNORED VICTIM - Gomer
Gomer,
named after singer Rick Springfield's rescued dog, was "living"
in Taguig. He was right by The Strip where there are lots of upscale
restaurants. I wonder how many people passed him by on their way to their
expensive meal, did anyone even give him a second glance where he laid
suffering under a bush! Luckily for Gomer a CARA member did stop and look
closer, he is now in his new home with his kind rescuer Totelle.
Ongoing round to take his photo for the website, spotting me
crouching with camera ready, he staggered to his feet to say hello, his tail
wagging. This poor dog could hardly walk but wanted to greet me. He took painfully slow steps round the yard only to then collapse back in his
cage after such exertion.
He was rescued on Monday,
26th October.
January 2010 : It took a lot of loving care and several trips to the clinic for Gomer to regain his strength back. He was put under confinement for the treatment of distemper, heart worms and erlichia. He is home now though he still battles with a weak immune system. Our hearts go out to this brave dog and his patient rescuer. Look what a beautiful dog he turned out to be!
BRUNO
Bruno was rescued from a canal where security guards callously cast him to drown. With love and care, six months later Bruno was a healthy, lively best friend for one of his rescuers. The only external sign of his ordeal was the loss of his left eye which could not be saved.
ROCKY
This poor cat had been shot with a pellet gun and had pellet wounds on his face. He has been in the clinic for 8 days now, treatment is on-going with antibiotics and twice daily cleaning of the wound, the swelling is painfully sore. Would you believe he was not a stray! He was owned by a family who had witnessed the obvious pain & suffering their poor cat was going through for over two weeks but decided not to do anything for him, he was luckily spotted by a volunteer. Despite the obvious pain he is under he is in fighting spirit, so his name Rocky is apt.
Sad update -unfortunately Rocky had to be put to sleep, he was experiencing breathing problems and blood was coming out his eyes. There was just too much internal damage to save him. Poor Rocky, we will remember you.
MAGGIE
Maggie had a very difficult life before she was rescued, she was full of mange, very scared, probably a battered dog and too weak to even stand. But with love and hard work we managed to get her trust back, make her love again, treat her skin condition and turn her into a happy normal dog. The good news is she has been adopted by a volunteer and has a caring loving home now.
SLIM
70% of this cats body was covered in scald scars - someone threw boiling water over him. This is something that happens all too often here.
With lots of TLC he has now fully recovered; his scars will never completely heal but he is fit/healthy and has been neutered. He is now looking for someone to adopt him who will look past his remaining scars and see the lovable cat he is. I think they might have to change his name though- he is certainly no longer skinny!
MAX
Max has a badly deformed leg and has obviously been badly scolded in the past; he has old wounds on his back where the fur hasn't grown back. He is also very very thin.
Unfortunately his blood tests show he has kidney and liver disease, so the outlook isn't good. He is very friendly.....even after all the cruelty done to him by humans.
The unfortunate update is that Max had to be put to sleep, his kidney and liver disease was too advanced and he was suffering. We can just feel thankful that in his last few weeks he was loved and cared for.
SANDY
Abandoned & left with nothing to eat, Sandy was found tied up with heavy, rusted chains to a post. She was exposed to the harsh sun and heavy rains. A CARA member found her & immediately sent an email to everyone asking who could give her a second shot at life. She is now living with someone who cares about her and is a lot happier. Look how she now looks after only a few month TLC!
POOR PUPPY
We heard his screams before we saw him. Apparently, human footsteps trigger cries and whimpers from this abused, and chronically in pain puppy. He was put in the garden from the street to shelter him from the rains, was fed and brought water for him to drink. For three days he relearned to trust humans enough to let them touch him. He was, alas, paralyzed from the hips down. The vet said the most merciful thing was to put him to sleep.
BEAU
Beau was rescued from a horrible cage (shown in photo on left) at the Naval Station of Fort Bonifacio in late April 09. At the time he was scared of people and unapproachable.
Today he is an affectionate and happy dog, neutered and complete with his vaccinations. He is being fostered and looked after by CARA president Nancy.
APRIL
CARA received a text message late May about a neglected mother dog with 5 puppies along the sidewalk of Taft Avenue in Pasay City.
She was in a sad condition - thin, weak and mangy. She slept under a tricycle while her puppies slept on a piece of cardboard with a slab of wood as their roof.
Her food resembled left overs from restaurant garbage
CARA fed and medicated her for over a week. Then the rains came and we felt bad that they had to live in this sad condition, so we rescued April and her 4 puppies. Sadly one puppy had been sold already.
The 2 brindle puppies (male & female) were adopted at 2 months of age and the 2 mono-color puppies (male & female) were adopted in December 2009. April is about 2 years old and has fully recovered from her malnourished state.
In December 2009, Beau and April was taken off the CARA adoption
site and made permanent members of CARA president Nancy's household. Lucky them! Or, as
Nancy puts it "On the contrary.....we are the lucky ones
They are both sweethearts :-)"
