Dog-blogs and Cat-tales
Sadly too many animals rescued by CARA have heartrending stories to tell. Fortunately, thanks to loving adoptive families, these tales have happy endings.

Starving, confused and terrified following weeks of imprisonment in a dark crate, covered in mange, with scars on my legs from old wounds, I was bundled into a sack and thrown into the garbage truck. I knew my fate: stabbing to death and then roasting over a wood fire for the workmen’s supper. Then, it seemed, a miracle happened, CARA’s President raced to the rescue and forced the garbage collectors to relinquish me. After weeks of tender care, I am fit and healthy. Better still, I have found my adoring ‘forever family’ who are helping me learn to be a dog again and to trust the people who love me best.
Gismo
Abandoned (in the box, bottom left) as a kitten with 26 other cats when a family left the Philippines. I thought I was doing better, until the woman left to care for us decided we were too much trouble. When CARA rescued me, I was so sick I couldn’t eat, and had to suffer needles and drips to make me better. But a gentle volunteer tempted me to lick food off her fingers and slowly, slowly I felt well again. Now I’m as funny and quirky as my name, Gismo, living with a wonderful family, with my best friend Ginger. My only worry is, “Which patch of shade shall I sleep in?”
Mautzi
When we were abandoned my brothers and sisters and I just huddled together in our cardboard box crying and crying for help, so weak we couldn't move. Somebody must have heard us, because the CARA people rescued us, fed us and found us new homes. Now I live in luxury, Nakal the dog is my best friend and my favourite game is to play with little Alexandra. Maybe she thinks I'm her toy, not her kitten, but I don't care, its just wonderful to have a full tummy and be loved so much. One day, she says, I'II go with her to her other home in Germany. 'Where's that?' I ask, 'Will they be fish for dinner there too?'
Three tiny miracles -
Rolo, Snickers and Oreo
We were sleeping peacefully with our mother when sudden we were wrenched away from her warm body, and found ourselves thrown in a plastic bag. We were so scared, our mother was calling us but we couldn't get to her! We cried and cried huddling together to try and keep warm. We were somewhere wet but we didn't know where - we were only a few days old and our eyes weren't even open yet. We felt someone opening the bag and hands lifting us out. A strange thing was stuck in our mouths but we soon learnt milk came from this device; not quite like mum though. We are now big and strong but still scared of plastic bags. At least we now know our new family will never abandon us.
TIGER
In Dec 2007, unknown person(s) shot 28 cats that CARA had in their cages at the Dasmarinas Village Club House at point-blank range. Only 5 survived. Tiger is one of those survivors.
I was recoverying from being neutered, sleeping in my cage, when suddenly I heard noise and laughter then felt severe pain around my face area, I had been shot by an air rifle, along with my 28 friends.
Some were lying in pain crying quietly, others were already dead. I was so scared and in agony, I couldn't lift my head!
Much later I felt kind hands on me but that was followed by surgery to remove the bullet from my face - yet more pain. I am now physically recovered and living with a very kind lady, however it took her a long time to gain my trust. I used to run and hide, couldn't sleep if there was any noise; it reminded me of that time. I can rest more peacefully now but I can't quite allow myself to be petted and still feel nervous sometimes. I remember all the friends I lost and feel bitter that the person(s) who did this to us was never found. I want justice for all my friends who didn't make it and suffered at the hands of this sick individual(s), who thinks torturing defenceless animals is fun.
