Welcome to
CARA
(Compassion And Responsibility for Animals),
an animal welfare organisation based in the Philippines.
'The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated' Gandhi
CARA was formed in the year 2000 by a dedicated group of animal lovers determined to help the plight of animals in the Philippines.
We are a non-profit, non-government organisation advocating animal welfare.
CARA would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Rovie de La Cruz, Redge Estrada, Jules Kaatanyag, Melissa Rivera & Danzen Santos for making this video for us.
OUR PROJECTS -ABC & E
ANIMAL BIRTH CONTROL
A pair of breeding cats & their offspring can produce 420,000 kittens over a 7 year period!
The Philippine government does not support Animal Birth Control. Therefore we are burdened with the problem of run-away growth in the stray animal population; on every street corner you will see a stray animal struggling to survive.
Spaying and neutering is not a well known procedure, and even then, the majority of people do not have the funds to be responsible pet owners.

In 2007 we established the first dedicated low cost Spay & Neuter clinic in the country.
The CARA clinic enables us to offer Spaying & Neutering at an affordable price to pet owners. Adjacent we implement the Trap/Neuter/Return program, this method is used successfully in developed countries to control the animal population.
EDUCATION
The Philippines is not a place to live if you are a local cat or dog, there's no sympathy on these streets.

Although banned in 1998 the cruel dog meat trade is still rife; the dogs living on the streets have to just hope they don't end up on someone's dinner plate.
Cats are viewed as a nuisance to be detered and eliminated. Newborn kittens are killed or dumped, adult cats have to contend with boiling water being thrown over them, or being poisoned.
These kittens were 2 days old when they were put in a plastic bag and thrown down a drain. This occurred in an affluent village in the Philippines, contrary to popular belief, cruelty is by no means limited to the provinces.
At local schools we present an educational module which is aimed at promoting animal welfare in a fun but informative manner. Hopefully by starting with the youngest members of the population, we can encourage a new generation of people that show compassion to animals.

OUR FUTURE GOALS
The CARA Clinic
* To move to larger premises - our present clinic is only 22 sq feet!
* To be financially supported to enable us to offer free spay and neuter - we are very often operating in the red, we desperately need sponsorship and donations.
* An anesthesia machine - this is far less stressful for the cats, with a faster recovery time.
A Mobile Spay and Neuter Van
* A fully equipped mobile unit so we can go to the areas where our services are most needed – residents frequently do not have the funds for transportation to our clinic.
Education
* Media coverage - we need to change people’s attitudes towards local animals, the press is an important link in achieving this.
A Shelter
* To open a well equipped shelter, run to developed countries standards. At the moment any cats & dogs we help are kept in our homes! Can anyone donate some land, or help finance the building costs?
The pounds are very sad places, the animal is instantly on death row; they are euthanized after 5 days - notice the days on the cages...
without your help, our goals might well just remain dreams..............
FAITH
The Faith Fund was established in 2008 in honour of a very special cat who was a victim of the cruelty on the streets. It is an account designed to pay expenses for the treatment of animals whose injuries are exceptionally serious and require urgent medical care. Read more about this resilient cat: Faith Fund
Please adopt me!
Miss Regent
She was rescued in the construction site near Regent, hence the name. She has gorgeous eyes, long tail and has silver/grey stripes. She is very affectionate and would make a lovely companion. Very unusual and pretty colouring.
CAN'T ADOPT BUT WANT TO HELP!
