About CARA

CARA was formed in the year 2000 by a dedicated group of animal lovers determined to help the plight of animals in the Philippines. We are a non-profit, non-government organization that receives no government funding; we rely solely on private donations.

Vision

A society where the safe and compassionate co-existence of humans, cats and dogs thrives.

Mission

To foster a safe community for humans by advocating and raising public awareness on the need for accessible sterilization, veterinary care, rehabilitation and rehoming services for stray cats and dogs.

Goals

    • To promote Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return in barangays, villages and commercial establishments
    • To provide caring and responsible homes through our adoption program
    • To educate citizens about animal welfare and the stray animal population
    • To promote no-kill pounds and shelters

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Please note that CARA is not an animal shelter, nor are we a government agency.

We are a non-profit advocacy run by volunteers and sustained entirely by donationsOur focus is on educating the public about animal welfare, providing low-cost spay/neuter services, conducting Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (CNVR) programs, and promoting adoption over purchasing pets.

As we operate with limited funds and rely on volunteer availability, our capacity to fulfill requests depends on our resources and your willingness to participate. We receive numerous rescue requests weekly, and while we strive to help, we simply cannot assist every animal in need. We ask for your respect and understanding as we are volunteers.

The New CARA Animal Welfare Facility

Thanks to a generous benefactor, CARA opened its animal welfare facility in Mandaluyong, Metro Manila in January 2015. Our primary goal is to make affordable spay/neuter and basic animal services accessible to everyone. By making these procedures budget-friendly, we aim to curb pet overpopulation and prevent the associated cruelty to unwanted offspring, as well as reduce anti-social behaviors in unfixed animals. Our long-term vision includes offering mobile spay/neuter services to reach residents who can’t afford transport to our facility.

The vital work at the CARA Animal Welfare Facility is made possible by our dedicated staff and veterinarians who generously offer their time. Their commitment helps us achieve our mission: promoting spay/neuter as the most effective and humane way to control the street animal population and making these services available to lower-income communities. We also currently offer pet boarding and grooming services at our facility.
