In 2012, Laguna Pit Bulls was established following the largest raid on the country’s most infamous dogfighting operation in Laguna. Over 260 pit bulls and mixed-breed dogs were rescued from distressing conditions. After the successful shutdown of the operation, these dogs were left homeless and in dire need of care due to neglect-induced illnesses. CARA stepped in to handle their rehabilitation, turning the LPB initiative into a major project for the organization for years to come.
CARA’s dedication transformed the lives of these dogs, offering them the opportunity to heal and thrive. The legacy of Laguna pit bulls serves as a reminder that every act of kindness can rewrite stories of suffering into tales of redemption and second chances, highlighting the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring bond between humans and animals.
TIME FOR A CHANGE
As of 2023, only Gypsy is the remaining pittie from the original batch of rescues, as all other pitties have either been adopted, fostered, or passed away. Gypsy now finds companionship with five other aspins, originally under CARA’s care in Mandaluyong.
Consequently, CARA and the LPB team have decided to reassess the project’s future, shifting its focus to rehoming CARA’s present rescued dogs. This decision prompted several significant changes, including transferring the dogs from the sanctuary to a residential home in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. The project also underwent a name change, transitioning from the “Laguna Pit Bulls Sanctuary” to the “Laguna Pit Bulls Project” in December 2023.
THE PRESENT: CARA Home for Dogs
Currently, the dogs reside with their caretakers in CARA Home for Dogs in Novaliches, where they warmly welcome volunteers and potential sponsors or adopters. For more information on how you can get involved in volunteering or sponsoring, please refer to the Ways to Help section.
