Sara: Brave Cancer Survivor

When we met Sara, we wondered if she had been in an accident — a swelling lump took up the center of her face to the point that we couldn’t even see her eyes. It was after several tests and examinations that we found out it was a tumor. Sara had cancer.

Sara was found by a local rescuer who couldn’t find a place that would treat her and travelled all the way from Bataan. Sara arrived at our clinic weak, frightened and in unimaginable pain.

CARA is not a shelter and is kept alive only through donations from gracious donors and passionate volunteers. As much as we would like to take in every stray, it is not possible with our current situation. However, upon seeing Sara’s condition, we knew we had to help.

Over the course of her 6 chemo treatment sessions, Sara’s cancerous tumor has been arrested. In those few months, the frail, quiet dog that once shied away could now walk up to us, meet our gazes with the prettiest brown eyes and demand a belly rub. Sara has since healed with only a small scar on her forehead to mark where the tumor had been.

Unfortunately, her road to recovery has not been smooth. She recently tested positive for Ehrlichia and will be on another set of medications. Once she has fully healed, we hope to find her a loving family and a forever home.
